screening

so, lots of work on the screen. I’ve laid out the text i want on it as an outline, stretched the fabric over, and this is how it’s gone… hopefully i should be finishing this one today, it’s taken a lot longer than i anticipated so i’m a bit worried i might not get it…

permanence

I find private views completely anticlimactic – all the effort and frantic frustration, panic and tension boiling down to a glass of cheap red and a hint of ‘where did all the effort go?’. there’s also the tiny niggles and worries and little things that go wrong that make you think ‘ah well…’. Still –…

the end is nigh!

The private view is tomorrow, i’m putting the finishing touches to the ‘scopes and getting everything together for the assessment. I also have some plateweights for the muto stand which will help. i’m installing myself tomorrow and so far, so good… D’ya wanna see what they look like now? i found a suitable piece of…

getting there – no, i really am this time!

the mutoscopes are really taking shape now – the frame on the mutantscope was bothering me, so i’m replacing it with painted sheets of EVA, It looks like it was stored in some eccentrics cellar for years, under the shelf with the leaky mutagen… mwahahahahaaaa. When i look at it i’m disgusted and fascinated –…

embellishing the mutantscope

oh wow, the mutantscope is really taking shape – i went in with the fine brush to cover up all the bits i’d missed and brushed it with gold to pick up all the little fibrous surface details – i’m back to enjoying myself again, huzzah! so, todays progress: the only thing i’m not convinced…

in a previous life…

… i designed monsters for Doctor Who: I’ve decided to have two mutoscopes, one working and one with an ‘out of order’ sign. i’ve also swapped the stands around. so, next steps: touch up and embellish the mutantscope increase the stand height of the original work out signage  fix the barrels to the stands when…

getting there…

Well, I’m getting there. The mutantscope is taking shape and i finally got around to dealing with version one – lovely drippy waxy nonsense:       the photos really don’t do it justice – now i need to find a sealer of some description, or just be very damn careful. Fixing it to the stand tomorrow!…

mutotions

So, can one went on last night. Can two went on at lunchtime. Can three went on at 4:15. Rain started at about ten past five – huzzah! beat the elements! it looks bloody repulsive 😉 it’ll be so much fun taking it into college tomorrow – like a doofus i left the fixing ring…

muto-ny

I’ve been an absolute asshole over the past fortnight – i’ve spent so long tying and taping and layering that i lost sight of what was important – having fun with it. The original barrel was primed, sprayed satin black and then gloss red, giving it a deeper, cherry-red finish that made the whole look…

progressing…

The mutoscope is shaping up and residing at my house after the college exodus – now it needs priming, but first some shots of mod roc layer two… certainly shaping up… although the viewer needs some filing/sanding. so far, so good… vix
